Confirmed coronavirus cases jump to 1,717

(UTV | COLOMBO) – Another seven persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Sri Lanka.

Accordingly, the total number of coronavirus cases detected in the country has risen to 1,717. The Ministry of Health confirmed that 34 new COVID-19 patients have been identified today.

14 Navy personnel in total have contracted the novel coronavirus today.

Furthermore, 19 persons who arrived from Qatar and held at a quarantine facility in Ampara tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, a recent arrival from Kuwait who was held at a facility in Minneriya also tested positive for COVID-19.

Accordingly, 870 COVID-19 patients are currently receiving medical treatment at 11 hospitals across the country.

836 persons who contracted the novel coronavirus have recovered and have been discharged from hospitals. Furthermore, 66 suspected COVID-19 cases are under observation.

11 deaths in the country have also been linked to COVID-19.
