(UTV | COLOMBO) – Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi says the government will leave no room for the coronavirus to spread among communities through Lankan overseas returnees.
The Minister speaking at a media briefing yesterday said health units have taken all measures to ensure the virus does not spread.
She said the returnees from overseas are being handled stringently and with responsibility.
The Minister said the groups are being handled while adhering to strict health guidelines, adding that during their transportation to quarantine centres and to hospitals when confirmed to have contracted the coronavirus, all measures are ensured with utmost safety.
She noted that all returnees, even though they may have contracted the virus upon arrival, will be treated while ensuring the virus does not spill over in to the community.
Minister Wanniarachchi added due attention is also paid to dengue alongside efforts to contain the coronavirus.
She requested the public to remain vigilant at all times adding that 20 persons have fallen victim to dengue in 2020 alone.
The Health Minister added 150 individuals succumbed to dengue last year adding that all measures must be taken to eradicate the dengue menace.
