Showers exceeding 150mm expected from tomorrow

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The Department of Meteorology predicts an increase in showers experienced over the island from tomorrow.

Director General of the Department Athula Karunanayake said showers exceeding 150mm are expected tomorrow.

He said due to the low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, showers will enhance over the island during the next few days in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western and Southern provinces.

Heavy rainfall above 100mm is expected at some places in the Kegalle, Ratnapura, Kalutara, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.

The Department predicted wind speed to increase up to 40-80 kmph at times over the island.

The Department also predicted the deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Potuvil via Hambantota will be rough.
