(UTV | COLOMBO) – The US Embassy in Colombo yesterday confirmed that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa renounced his US citizenship in April 2019.
In response to a query by a prominent online news portal in the isle, an embassy spokesman has said that the President Rajapaksa was no longer a US citizen.
“I can confirm that Gotabaya Rajapaksa renounced his US citizenship in April 2019. He is no longer a US citizen,” the spokesman said.
The President’s name appeared in the Federal register that lists out those who renounced the citizenship.
Normally it takes time for a name of an individual to appear upon renunciation of his citizenship.
