Non-communicable disease drugs to arrive from India

Drugs for Non-communicable disease will arrive in Sri Lanka from India tomorrow, the President’s office said today.

The drugs will arrive on a request made by Sri Lanka to India.

There have been concerns of a shortage of essential drugs as a result of the curfew in Sri Lanka and lockdown in India.

Recently the Sri Lanka Chamber of the Pharmaceutical Industry (SLCPI) had assured the public that despite the global impact of the coronavirus, there was no shortage in availability of essential drugs in Sri Lanka.

SLCPI said that all major pharmaceutical importers have inventory and stock for at least three months and sometimes even more. So panic buying of medicines as a reaction to the coronavirus was unnecessary.
