The provision of the monthly pensions for pensioners will be carried out today.
The government stated pensions will be handed over today, tomorrow and on the 6th of April.
Accordingly an initiative to transport pensioners to banks to obtain their pensions and return them to their homes amidst the ongoing curfew, will be overseen by security forces personnel.
Meanwhile the government announced that as retirees will be granted their pension today, all pharmacies across the island will be open today.
Accordingly the government requested all pharmacies in the country to remain open on the 2nd, 3rd and 6th of April, the days allocated to pay pensions.
Police Media Spokesman SP Jaliya Senaratne said therefore the Pensioners Identity Card can be utilised as a curfew permit.
He noted that as a result of the decision by the government to provide pensions during these three days, the Acting Inspector General of Police has instructed all Police Stations, that pensioners will be allowed to use their Pensioners ID in order to visit pharmacies and purchase medicine.
