COVID-19: 212 persons under observation

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health says a total of 212 persons including eight foreign nationals are currently under observation over coronavirus concerns.

Accordingly, persons who are suspected to have contracted the virus have been admitted to 17 hospitals across the country. 79 persons are under observation at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases at present.

A total of 19 coronavirus related cases have been reported in Sri Lanka from January this year with a 42-year old Chinese national making a full recovery after medical treatment at the IDH.

14 others who contracted the virus returned from Italy recently while two others arrived in the country from Germany also had tested positive for the virus.

Separately, two other local tour guides who interacted with Italian nationals have also been infected in Sri Lanka.

Moreover, a Sri Lankan woman was diagnosed with COVID-19 in Italy while the United Arab Emirates earlier this month confirmed that two Sri Lankans had tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the UAE.
