Govt. protecting the guilty – JVP

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The JVP has charged the incumbent government of safeguarding wrongdoers.

Speaking at public rally held in Welisara Parliamentarian Vijitha Herath said all promises the government to take action against the corrupt after coming into power have not been followed through.

He said on the political platform the government made grand statements  about returning Arjun Mahendran to Sri Lanka to face the law and that the main perpetrators in the controversial bond transactions would be punished.

However he remarked that now three months have passed and there is no mention of the bond issue.

The JVP MP pointed out that the forensic audit report not only revealed Arjun Mahendran’s dealings but also those of Ajith Nivaad Cabraal, but yet there was no action taken.

The government is not punishing wrongdoers at present, he noted, but cleaning them up instead, adding other than clearing up Udayanga Weeratunga and Cabraal’s wrongdoing, neither the JVP nor the country can see culprits facing the law.

He lamented therefore it was very clear that both sides were engaged in deal politics and thieves on both sides were being protected.

He stressed thieves were not punished in the past and neither are they being punished now.
