74 applications to register new political parties

(UTV|COLOMBO) – A total of 74 applications have been filed with the National Election Commission, to register new political parties in the country.

The time-frame granted to register new political parties concludes today. A spokesperson of the Commission informed to media that all applications will be scrutinized from tomorrow.

The appointment of new office bearers, financial records and electioneering activities are considered before recognizing any political organisations in the country.

Following the declaration of an election, a new political party cannot register with the National Election Commission.
