Police sergeant arrested over Rs.50,000 bribe

(UTV|COLOMBO) – A police sergeant attached to the Pelmadulla Police was arrested by the Bribery Commission officials today for accepting Rs.50,000 as a bribe.

The Bribery Commission said the sergeant of the Pelmadulla Police Crimes Unit was arrested outside the Pelmadulla Magistrate’s Court premises.

The suspect had sought Rs.50,000 as a bribe from an individual who has a court case against him at the Pelmadulla Court promising to give a copy of the complaint and a summary of evidence relating to the case.

The suspect, a resident of Opanayaka, is to be produced in the Balangoda Magistrate’s Court.
