Rs.1,000 daily wage for estate workers from March 1

(UTV | COLOMBO) – The minimum daily wage of a plantation worker should be Rs.1000 with effect from March 1, 2020, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has decided.

The President has also instructed relevant officials to take immediate measures to develop the infrastructure in the estate sector speedily, a communiqué issued by the President’s Media Division said.

“The government has taken several measures to improve the productivity and quality in the tea industry. These include tax relief and concessions for fertilizer.

Plantation companies reap the benefits of these measures and these benefits should be shared with the workers as well,” the President has stressed.

The President says with the development in the production and industrial sectors the government’s intention is to pass on the benefits of such development to the workers as well.
