Verdict on case against Admiral Wijegunaratne in Feb

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The verdict on the case filed against former Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, for allegedly aiding the main suspect in the 2008 youth abduction case, to flee the country, will be delivered on the 12th of February.

The order will be delivered by the Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake.

During today’s hearing, the officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department, informed Court, that the final report on the investigation has been sent to the Attorney General’s Department.

Counsels representing the defendants requested the Magistrate to release their clients as the investigation into the case has been concluded.

The Magistrate notified that after considering the determination of the Attorney General, he will deliver the verdict on the 12th of February.

Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, was arrested and subsequently remanded on charges of harbouring and aiding the main suspect in the 2008 youth abduction case to flee the country.
