(UTV|COLOMBO) – The United National Party says the government is attempting to palm off the blame of the arbitrary arrest of Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake entirely on the Police Department.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Parliamentarian Harshana Rajakaruna said without the knowledge of the Minister of Law and Order, the Police will not resort to acts such as apprehending a Member of Parliament.
He said Police seized a firearm that was purportedly held without a valid license and a stock of CDs during the search operation.
MP Rajakaruna noted that a warrant was obtained by filing serious charges, claiming that such facts do not add up and branded the arrest a political witch-hunt.
Parliamentarian Rajakaruna said the present administration and those affiliated to it are known for instilling fear amongst the public and fear mongering.
