Navy assists to apprehend 6 persons in an illegal attempt of selling gems

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Six persons who were on an illegal attempt of selling gems, were apprehended during a raid carried out by Navy in coordination with SL Police, at Saindamaradu area in Kalmunai, on Thursday (02).

Sri Lanka Navy is conducting a leading role in preventing the illegal activities and Navy has launched operations to nab the persons engage in illegal attempts. During such an operation carried out at Saindamaradu area in Kalmunai in coordination with Police, a suspicious van was searched and recovered 17 gems possessed by the persons travelling in the van. Accordingly, six(06) persons who were in the van, were apprehended. By further inquiry it was revealed that these gems were transporting for illegal selling and the suspects were identified as the smugglers engage in gem business.

The suspects are residents of Bibila and Ampara areas aged 25, 30, 32, 34, 41 and 43. They along with the gems were handed over to Kalmunai Police for further investigation.
