“If UNP requests Govt. will consider dissolving parliament early” – Min. Wimal

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Minister Wimal Weerawansa says the government is ready to consider dissolving Parliament before the scheduled time, at the next meeting of Government Parliamentary group, if the United National Party puts forth any such request.

Speaking at a media briefing in Kandy today, Minister Weerawansa said the UNP is at present considering that if Parliament is dissolved as planned sometime in the first week of March, the election would fall on the 26th of April – the same time frame in which the April 21st attacks occurred.

He explained therefore that the UNP is instead considering proposing the dissolution of parliament earlier in February, adding their intent was also the conduct of the general election before the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

Minister Weerawansa said accordingly if the UNP reaches such a conclusion, then the government will consider as to whether parliament will be dissolved at the scheduled time or earlier in February as the UNP may request.
