“SLFP won’t form an alliance under ‘flower bud’ symbol” – President

(UTV|COLOMBO) – President Maithripala Sirisena said that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will enter into an agreement with Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) if only the SLPP is ready to shed the ‘flower bud’ (Pohottuwa) symbol.

The President made these remarks addressing the SLFP District Convention in Kurunegala yesterday (29).

President Sirisena further said that the SLFP will support the SLPP at the forthcoming Presidential Election if the SLPP agreed to the proposal of the SLFP to contest under a common symbol except the ‘flower bud’ symbol.

“The SLFP will not agree to contest the Presidential Election under the ‘flower bud’ symbol as the SLFP has its own identity and dignity,” the President noted.

President Sirisena said the SLPP Presidential candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Mahinda Rajapaksa, and Basil Rajapaksa met him at the President Secretariat on Saturday (28) to discuss the issues relating to election.

The President added that at the meeting he asserted that the SLFP will not agree to contest under the ‘flower bud’ and instead had proposed that a common symbol be agreed on.
