NBRO issues landslide warnings for four districts

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) today (Sept 16) issued landslide warnings to the Ratnapura, Nuwara Eliya, Kegalle, and Kalutara districts for the next 24 hours.

According to the NBRO, the following areas have been listed as those that could be potentially affected if the rains persist :

Ratnapura

  • Kiriella, Kalawana, Ratnapura, Eheliyagoda divisional secretariats and surrounding areas

Nuwara Eliya

  • Ambagamuwa divisional secretariat and surrounding areas

Kegalle

  • Warakapola, and Dehiowita divisional secretariats and surrounding areas

Kalutara

  • Mathugama, and Bulathsinhala divisional secretariats and surrounding areas

Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) has warned residents in the banks of the Kelani, Kalu, Mahaweli, Attanagalu & Gin rivers to remain cautious of rising water levels.
