Lankan refugee held with pistol

(UTV|COLOMBO) – A Sri Lankan Tamil woman was arrested with a pistol in Rameshwaram, India when she attempted to come to Sri Lanka illegally.

The Rameshwaram Police arrested the woman on Wednesday evening when she was on the way to aboard a fishing boat to come to Sri Lanka illegally with the 9 mm pistol.

Police are also investigating to arrest the fishing boat operator as well.

According to sources, S. Mallurmathi (46) of Mannar who immigrated to India had stayed in a refugee camp. She had paid the fishing boat operator to come to Sri Lanka illegally.

However, the Police arrested her on her way in a three-wheeler to the fishing boat and seized the pistol which was in her handbag.
