(UTV|COLOMBO) -Residents on the banks of the Kalu Ganga in Ratnapura have been advised to be cautious due to the rising water levels in the river, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said.
DMC Deputy Director P.K.Kodippili said that water levels in the Kalu Ganga had increased due to the heavy rains experienced in the area over the last 24 hours.
According to the Meteorological Department, the Sabaragamuwa Province in which the Ratnapura district is located is expected to receive more than 100 mm of rainfall.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Central, Southern and North-western provinces, the Department said in a weather forecast.
Wind speeds too are expected to increase across the country.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department also said that the sun would be directly overhead several areas in the Northern Province until September 07.
