(UTV|COLOMBO) – Speaker of the House Karu Jayasuriya says Sri Lanka which was on par with Japan economically in 1948, has faced drawbacks in all sectors during the past 71 years.
Addressing a gathering in Kotmale, Speaker Jayasuriya attributed the misfortune to long-standing internal divisions in the country.
The Speaker noted during the past 71 years Japan progressed while Sri Lanka moved backwards.
Speaker Jayasuriya said Sri Lanka faced huge losses as a result of two unsuccessful military coups taking place, two youth uprisings taking place and the birth of terrorism and racial disputes within the country.
