Case against Gamini Senarath: Verdict today

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Permanent High Court-at-Bar will pronounce the verdict on the case filed against Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath and two others pertaining to the misuse of Rs. 500 million, today.

The case was heard before the Special High Court’s Trial-at-Bar consisting of justices Sampath Abeykoon, Sampath Abeyratne and Champa Janaki Rajaratne.

The Attorney General filed the case against the suspects on 24 indictments including the misappropriation and unauthorised use of Rs.500 million in funds belonging to Litro Gas, to invest in a private entity between the 1st of February 2014 and 20th of January 2015.

This was the first case filed at the Permanent High Court-at-Bar established to hear cases of serious financial fraud and corruption.

Piyadasa Kudabalage and Lasantha Bandara are the other two defendants in the case. Court at the last hearing on the 9th of July, stated that a verdict on the case would be pronounced today.
