Drug peddler arrested in Tangalle

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Navy in coordination with the Police Special Task Force (STF) conducted a search in Kurundupokuna area, Tangalle and arrested a drug peddler on Monday (01).

Accordingly, the Naval Personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command in coordination with the Officials of Police STF in Pattiyapola conducted a search and managed to arrest this suspect. The arrested person, who is a resident of Kurundupokuna area in Tangalle, has been identified as a peddler involved in distribution of drugs.

When the arrest was made 205 grams of Kerala cannabis had been found in his possession. Subsequently, the suspect along with cannabis was handed over to the Tangalle Police for onward investigation.

Meanwhile, the Navy nabbed another drug trafficker during a search carried out at the Kudawella fishery harbour on 27 June. Following the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, the Navy has strengthened its missions to bust drug trafficking efforts in a bid to wipe out this menace from the country.
