(UTV|COLOMBO) – The other week filmmaker Patty Jenkins confirmed that Warner Bros. Pictures is skipping this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, and so she revealed the teaser poster for “Wonder Woman 1984” instead via her own social media accounts.
The film, a sequel to Jenkins’ acclaimed 2017 “Wonder Woman” film adaptation, is set in that titular mid-80s year and sees Gal Gadot’s Diana return alongside Chris Pine as some form of Steve Trevor, Kristen Wiig as the villain Barbara Minerva/Cheetah, and Pedro Pascal in an unannounced role.
Now, a new report from That Hashtag Show claims to have details about what to expect in the new film. As there are potential SPOILERS ahead – be aware.
The report indicates Diana Prince (Gadot) starts out the film acting as a spy during the Cold War and is hunting down a nefarious Russian spy. At the same time, Barbara Minerva (Wiig) idolises Wonder Woman and encounters Maxwell Lord (likely Pascal) – a man who can grant people’s wishes… at a price.
It’s through his unnatural powers that Steve Trevor is apparently able to return (as a potential vessel for Lord’s soul), and that Minerva becomes the hero she wants to be until the beast side of her new personality becomes unmanageable – pushing her to become Cheetah.
“Wonder Woman 1984” will hit cinemas June 2020.
