Charges to be filed against Mahanama & Dissanayake

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption today informed Court that it will file charges against former Presidential Chief of Staff, IK Mahanama and Former Chairman of State Timber Corporation Piyadasa Dissanayake who were arrested for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs. 20 million.

Officials of the Bribery Commission informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne that investigations over the matter had concluded.

The suspects were arrested when attempting to accept a bribe from an Indian businessman to handover equipment and sanction a building belonging to a sugar factory in Kantale.

The next hearing of the case is scheduled for the 10th of September.
