Atelier Kandy hosts a groundbreaking classical experience

(UTV|COLOMBO) – An intimate evening with highly acclaimed musicians of the Chamber Music Society of Colombo sponsored by Atelier Kandy will take place on Saturday, June 8 at 6:30 pm at Atelier Kandy,Siebel Place Circular Road, Peradeniya Road, Kandy (in front of Arpico Super Center). The event will bring together six remarkable Sri Lankan musicians to collaborate with Lakshman Joseph-de Saram, to create an immersive symphonic experience celebrating rich variety of music by Mozart, J C Bach to Amy Beach.

The evening includes drinks and hors d’oeuvres, and an opportunity to meet the performers and musicians. The event is a fundraiser for ART SPACE, which has been bringing high-quality events to Kandy audiences for the past two years.

Six exceptional musicians of the Society will perform the Flute Quartets of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Anton Schubert and the Flute Quintet of the first accomplished American female composer, Amy Beach, born in 1857. Franz Anton Schubert (the elder, 1768-1824) was a Dresden born composer, who was not related to the famous Viennese composer of the same name, though his Flute Quartet certainly does merit a listen. The musicians performing will be Sureka Amarasinghe (flute), Lakshman Joseph-de Saram (violin) Ursula Nelius (violin) Othman Majid (viola) Saranga Coorey (cello) & Nilanthi Weerakoon (contrabass).

Founded in 2008, the Chamber Music Society of Colombo is the most dynamic platform in the region, for exciting new interpretations of the classics, and most importantly, a champion for the politically and culturally explosive music of modern Sri Lanka and South Asia.Tickets are available for purchase at the venue.
