“Kombat”, “Candyman” and more set film dates

(UTV|COLOMBO) – A couple of major projects have set start of production dates.

Film producer James Wan’s reboot of the “Mortal Kombat” franchise is reportedly set to begin filming on September 16th in South Australia. Warner Bros. Pictures is taking advantages of local tax incentives and crews for the production which is currently targeting a March 5th 2021 release. Award-winning commercial director Simon McQuoid will helm the project based on the ultraviolent fighting game.

Meanwhile the Jordan Peele-produced “Candyman,” the spiritual sequel to the 1992 horror classic, is expected to commence production in Chicago on August 20th with filming to wrap exactly one month later on September 20th. Nia DaCosta (“Little Woods”) will direct from a screenplay by Peele and Win Rosenfeld for MGM and Universal. The film is aiming to open on June 12th 2020.

Finally, Jason Reitman’s third “Ghostbusters” feature for Sony Pictures is set to begin filming next month, specifically on July 14th in Calgary, Canada. It’s expected that filming will wrap up by October 7th. Finn Wolfhard, McKenna Grace, Carrie Coon and several original cast members will star in the film with plot details under wraps. It opens on July 10th 2020.
