“Move to set MRP on several varieties of rice, a great relief for consumers” – Minister Rishad

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The move to set a Maximum Retail Price (MRP) on several varieties of rice comes as a great relief for consumers, the Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen stated on Sunday (02).

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) in an Extraordinary Gazette Notification ordered a MRP on several varieties of rice with effect from 31 May.

Accordingly, the MRP of White Samba – steamed/boiled, (Excluding Keeri Samba and Suduru Samba) shall be Rs. 85 per kilogramme.

The MRP of White Nadu and Red Nadu – boiled/steamed, (Excluding Mottaikarupan and Attakari) will be Rs. 80 and Rs. 74 per kilogramme respectively.

The CAA ordered that no producer, distributor or trader shall sell, expose or offer for sale or display for sale the specified varieties of rice above the MRP given.
