Programme on drug eradication will be broadened

(UTV|COLOMBO) – A decision is taken to strengthen the drug eradication programme and to broaden the related projects.

Under the instructions of the President Maithripala Sirisena, a National Drug Eradication week is announced from 22 June to 01 July and the programmes conducted Island-wide will be made regular and efficient.

The acts and regulations regarding controlling drugs and reducing the crimes were taken in to detailed discussion under the patronage of Secretary to the President Udaya. R. Senevirathne at the President’s Office on Monday (27).

The administration of the Tobacco and Narcotic regulations, Tax Act, the protection of prisons, rehabilitating drug addicts, as well as the issues regarding the analysis of drugs of Drug Analysts’ Department was taken in to discussion.

Venerable Kuppiyawatte Bodhinanada Thero, Secretaries of Ministries, the related Officials, Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C. D. Wickrmerathne, and Heads of Security Sections participated in this event.
