Whannell’s “Invisible Man” set for March 2020

(UTV|COLOMBO) –Universal Pictures and Blumhouse have announced a March 13th 2020 release date for “Upgrade” director Leigh Whannell’s new take on H.G. Wells’ “The Invisible Man”.

The new date puts the project up against Warner’s “Godzilla vs. Kong,” the fourth and last film in the ‘MonsterVerse’ movies, and exploits a date that Jordan Peele’s “Us” opened to with major success earlier this year.

Plot details of this version are unknown, but this is the first film in the studio’s shift in strategy following its abandoning its big-budget interconnected ‘Dark Universe’ concept in favor of standalone films with more modest budgets that embrace ‘creative directors with distinctive visions’.

Whannell’s long been celebrated as a writer/producer/director with genre skills to burn and his take is said to be a very character-driven, fresh version. Elisabeth Moss and Storm Reid will star and Jason Blum is producing the film which begins shooting in July in Sydney, Australia.
