(UTV|COLOMBO) – Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci and comedy legend Chris Rock have joined the cast of Robert Zemeckis’ fantastical adventure “The Witches” starring Anne Hathaway and Octavia Spencer.
Based on Roald Dahl’s beloved 1973 novel, the film reimagines the story by shifting the setting to a rural Alabama town in 1967. A young orphaned boy (Jahzir Kadeem Bruno) goes to live with his loving Grandma (Spencer) and come across some deceptively glamorous but thoroughly diabolical witches.
Grandma whisks them to an opulent seaside resort, arriving at the same time that the world’s Grand High Witch (Hathaway) has gathered her fellow cronies from around the globe there to carry out her nefarious plans.
“Black-ish” creator Kenya Barris co-wrote the script with Zemeckis who is producing with Jack Rapke, Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo del Toro. Filming has officially begun.
