PM vows to eradicate the IS from the country

(UTV|COLOMBO) -Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says the Islamic State will be eradicated from the country, and called on the public to report any individuals suspected to have ties with such persons or anyone involved in terrorist activities.

Speaking in Batticaloa the Prime Minister said the tragedy on the 21st of April, by a group of suicide bombers, must be overcome, and called for Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim, Catholic and all communities to work together.

The Prime Minister today visited the Zion Church, in Batticaloa, that was attacked by a suicide bomber on Easter Sunday.

The next of kin of those who were killed in the attack and the injured persons were granted compensation under the patronage of the Prime Minister.

Premier Wickremesinghe speaking further, expressed his condolences to the families claiming the pain and loss felt by the families cannot be comprehended.

Premier Wickremesinghe said steps have been taken to renovate the three churches that were targets of the suicide bombers adding, all possible steps are being taken to bring back normalcy.

The Prime Minister said Sunday services will resume in future and stated that schools will reopen for the second school term on Monday.

The Prime Minister also stated that those responsible and suspected to have been involved in the attacks have been arrested while a few others have died in encounters with the security forces.

Premier Wickremesinghe said local as well as international agencies have pledged their support towards investigation efforts.

The Premier referring to the 30 year long conflict with the LTTE and the peace that prevailed following the end of the conflict, stated that everyone should strive to work towards peace once again regardless of race and religious differences.
