UGC writes to Defence Ministry over security

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The University Grants Commission, the apex body of the University System in Sri Lanka has requested the Ministry of Defence to carry-out a comprehensive search operation at all universities before the commencement of academic activities on the 6th of May.

Speaking to a prominent online news portal, Chairman of the UGC Professor Mohan de Silva said a letter was directed to the Defence Secretary adding an appeal was also made to beef up security at all universities following the commencement of academic activities.

Meanwhile, a special discussion between the UGC Chairman and all Vice-Chancellors was held at the Moratuwa University premises.

UGC Chairman Professor Mohan de Silva said several decisions were taken in a bid formulate a broader programme to ensure the safety of students and staff at all universities.
