ISIS flags, explosives & suicide kits found in Samanthurai

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Military Spokesman, Brigadier Sumith Atapattu, says combined troops have recovered ISIS flags and a backdrop, suicide kits, military uniforms, explosives, detonators, gelignite sticks, acid bottles, detonating cords and other items from a safe house in Samanthurai last evening.

The Army further noted troops in Nintavur discovered a brand new unregistered van, suspected to have belonged to a relative of the National Towheed Jamat’s leader, Saharan Hashim.

Following detection of two ID cards, initial reports confirmed the said van had been bought with cash in Akkaraipattu on the 19th April 2019.

At present Army troops have cordoned off the entire area and are conducting clearing operations alongside the STF and Police in affected areas.
