Heavy rain and lightning advisory issued

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Department of Meteorology on Thursday (18) requested public to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by lightning activity and localised strong winds as the prevailing showery condition is expected to continue with severe lightning activities due to an atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka.

Accordingly, the showers or thundershowers will occur over most provinces of the island after 2.00 PM, while heavy falls above 100 millimetres can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Uva, Western and North-Western Provinces, and in Mannar and Anuradhapura Districts.

Meanwhile, the Met. Department further stressed that fairly heavy falls above 50 millimetres can also be expected at some places elsewhere.
