Ten illegal fishers apprehended by Navy

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Ten persons who engaged in illegal fishing in Karativu, Periyaarachchal, and Uchchamunai sea areas were apprehended by Navy on Wednesday (10).

Accordingly, a group of Naval Personnel aboard inshore patrol craft attached to the North-Western Naval Command, have observed 4 dinghies, and 2 canoes with 10 persons who engaged in fishing activities in a suspicious manner and by further search they were identified as illegal fishers. This group was arrested since they didn’t possess valid passes for fishing.

The suspects have been identified as residents of Negombo and Kalpitiya areas, aged from 20 to 51. These suspects along with dinghies, canoes, OBMs and other fishing gears were handed over to the office of the Fisheries Inspector – Puttalam for further investigation.
