Big Match ends in one day

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The 16th annual two-day Big Match between Nugawela Central College and Walala A. Ratnayake Central College ended on the first day with Walala A. Ratnayake Central College winning by 8 wickets at the Asgiriya Stadium yesterday.

Nugawela Central College batting first were shot out for 54 before lunch with D Sarathchandra capturing 7 wickets for 13 runs.

Walalala A. Ratnayake Central College in reply were all out for 109 with S Abeyratne scoring 32 which turned out to be the highest individual score of the match.

Nugawela Central College in their second innings were bundled out for 64 with Sarathchandra adding a further four wickets to his tally to return with a match figures of 11 for 41.

Left with a formal target of 10 runs for victory Walala A Ratnayake Central knocked it off in 3.3 overs losing two wickets. This is the only winning result of the big matches played in Kandy this season.

Nugawela Central College 54 in 22.2 overs (H. Polkottuwe 18, K. Ratnayake 3/20, D. Sarathchandra 7/13) and 64 in 25.4 overs (N. Udalgama 26, D.Sarathchandra 4/28, V. V. Sanjeewa 5/14).

Walala A. Ratnayake Central 109 in 25.4 overs (S. Abeyaratne 32, V. Ekanayake 4/29, A. Wickremasinghe 2/24, K. Kapugoda 2/22) and 13-2 in 3.3 overs.
