Bambalapitiya hit-and-run: Police summons 15 who posted content in Facebook

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Police has summoned fifteen individuals who posted content in a social media platform on a hit-and-run incident in Bambalapitiya, that resulted the death of the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) attached to the Traffic Division of Borella Police Station.

The content posted in the Facebook claimed that the driver of the defender that said to be responsible for the accident was not among those arrested.

However, the Police stated that they have possession of video evidence to prove that the vehicle was driven by the arrested individual.

The OIC attached to the Traffic Division of Borella Police Station, who was critically injured in a hit-and-run incident in Bambalapitiya last month, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday (09) at the National Hospital in Colombo.

The defender vehicle, WP FZ 9143 which fled following a hit-and-run that led to critical injuries of the OIC has been discovered at a residence in Pelawatte, Battaramulla.

The vehicle was identified after footage of security cameras in the area where the hit-and-run took place were observed.

Eight persons including the son of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Parliamentarian Mahindananda Aluthgamage were arrested by the Police in connection with the accident, and later released on bail while the driver was remanded.
