Remand extended for Amal, Nadeemal and others arrested in Dubai

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The remand period for thirty-one suspects including several high-profile figures arrested red-handed with a wanted Sri Lankan underworld drug kingpin, ‘Makandure Madush’ in a raid at a hotel in Dubai, were extended by a month on Thursday (28).

Accordingly, thirty-one suspects including Artistes Amal Perera and his son Nadeemal along with the drug kingpin, Madush who were under the custody of the Dubai Police have been ordered to be remanded for one-month after they were produced to before the Dubai Court yesterday.

A large quantity of drugs was recovered from the suspects in the joint operation by the Dubai Police and Sri Lankan Law Enforcement Authorities.

Madush, who is among Sri Lanka’s most wanted criminals, had been evading arrest for the past couple of years.

The Authorities are now in talks with Dubai to extradite him to Sri Lanka.
