(UTV|COLOMBO) – Chris Hemsworth will play wrestling superstar Hulk Hogan in a Netflix biopic from “Joker” director Todd Phillips and writer Scott Silver.
Hogan was a fixture in pop culture in the 1980s as part of the World Wrestling Federation, parlaying his championship-winning moves into forays into movies, television, endorsements and games.
Hogan’s personal conflicts however overtook those inside the ring, including a sex tape scandal and a years-long lawsuit that precipitated the end of Gawker – but the film won’t deal with those years and focus only on his rise and the origins of the Hulkster and Hulkamania phenomenon.
Deals are closing with Netflix for the film which Phillips, Hemsworth, Bradley Cooper, Eric Bischoff and Michael Sugar (“Spotlight”) will produce.
