“Birds Of Prey” To Kick Off A Trilogy?

The DC movie talk just keeps on coming this week with a small detail in a recent THR article (via The Playlist) indicating that the upcoming “Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)” film at Warner Bros. Pictures may not be a standalone film after all.

The report claims that should it be successful, ‘Birds’ will kick off a planned thematic trilogy with “Gotham City Sirens” to serve as the direct follow-up. “Suicide Squad” helmer David Ayer was attempting to develop ‘Sirens’ until the Cathy Yan-directed ‘Birds’ took priority and it seemed both “Suicide Squad 2” and ‘Sirens’ were put on the backburner if not scrapped altogether.

Now though, both are back with James Gunn looking likely to direct the ‘Squad’ follow-up and ‘Sirens’ potentially moving forward. Should it happen, the project is expected to feature some of Gotham’s most famous female characters including Poison Ivy and Catwoman.

Should that be a success, the trilogy would then end with a ‘Birds vs. Sirens’ team-up film.
