Agunukolapelessa Prison Assault: Second Committee to commence probing today [VIDEO]

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The second Committee appointed to inquire into the alleged assault on the Prison inmates at the Agunukolapelessa Prison, is scheduled to commence its investigations on Saturday (19).

The Committee is due to handover the report of its findings before Friday (25).

The second Committee comprises of three Administrative Officers, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Presidential Secretariat P. M. Nanayakkara, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration and Management D. M. M. Basnayake, and Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Prison Reforms G. D. A. Swarnalatha.

The video footage of an incident where Prison Officers were seen assaulting a group of prison inmates, who were in remand custody at the Agunukolapelessa Prison.

The visuals were recorded by the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Cameras of the Prison on 22 November, 2018.
