(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Lanka Sathosa network, under the direction of the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Resettlement of Protracted Displaced Persons, and Cooperative Development Rishad Bathiudeen has commenced relief work in flood-hit Northern Province.

On the direction of Minister Bathiudeen to supply the affected people without any delays, the Lanka Sathosa Wednesday (26) prepared five lorry loads of relief valued over Rs. 12 million at Sathosa Welisara Warehouse.
Over 86,000 people have been affected by flash floods and heavy winds in the Northern Province. More than 11,000 people are staying in 39 Evacuation Centres as their homes were inundated.
The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) reported two deaths. Though flood waters were receding, the Meteorology Department warned shower or thundershowers will continue to occur in Northern, Eastern, and North-Central Provinces.
