President requests Estate Workers’ Trade Unions to halt the strike action and return to work

(UTV|COLOMBO) – President Maithripala Sirisena requested all estate workers, who are engaged in a strike action, to return to work, until a decision make after the discussions with relevant companies regarding their wages issue.

He made this request during a meeting held with the Estate Workers’ Trade Unions, regarding the prevailing strike action in the estate sector as well as about the increase of their salaries.

President Sirisena further said that he believed that estate workers should receive a reasonable salary and in parallel to that steps should be taken for the development of the plantation industry.

The President has decided to hold a meeting with the estate companies on next 19th, regarding the salary issue of the estate workers.

Members of the Parliament (MPs), Arumugan Thondaman, Mahindananda Aluthgamage and others participated on this occasion.
