“I remain the legal Prime Minister,” Ranil Wickremesinghe says

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Ranil Wickremesinghe on Friday (26) maintained the position that he would remain the legal Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.

“I have the majority in Parliament and it was affirmed by the Parliament during the No-Confidence Motion in April,” Wickremesinghe said, adding that the move is unconstitutional.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was sworn in as the new Prime Minister of the country before President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat last evening.

His swearing-in ceremony was held after the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) officially conveyed its decision to part ways with the Coalition Government. It is reported that party members had expressed their displeasure over the conduct of the good governance Government to Speaker Karu Jayasuriya Friday evening.
