President instructs Governors to free North, Eastern lands before Dec. 31

(UTV|COLOMBO) – President Maithripala Sirisena instructed Governors to intervene in the programme to release the lands of North and Eastern Provinces which were acquired by the security forces during the conflict, to its original owners.

President Sirisena made those instructions at meeting held to review the progress of the procedures of the Provincial Councils in 2018 on Monday (22).

All the Governors, Chief Ministers and Secretaries of Provinces and other Officials were present at this event.

The monetary issues and the progress of physical assets, vacancies to be filed, and other issues were discussed at the meeting.

President instructed the Chief Ministers of those Provinces to contribute fully for those programmes conducted towards eradicating poverty of the rural people.

All should contribute towards accomplishing the objectives of the Gramashakthi Peoples Movement which is a prominent project to eradicate poverty, President Sirisena added.
