Vietnam expresses condolence over Meethotamulla disaster

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – President of Republic of Vietnam Tran Dai Quang and the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong expressed their deepest sympathies to the government and the people of Sri Lanka for the Meethotamulla tragedy.

At a meeting with the Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, they assured that the government of Vietnam and its people will stand by Sri Lanka at this tragic moment.

They also said that they would extend any possible support in the future to prevent such disasters.

Prime Minister Wickremeisnghe was also grateful to Vietnam for the condolences expressed and coming forward to support at this moment.

Meanwhile, PM Wickremesighe has decided to cut short his official visit to Vietnam and return to the country on 19th April calling off several discussions due to the Meethotamulla disaster.
