(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen stated that a controlled price for local rice will be decided on today (17th Friday).
It has been reported that several complaints were filed by consumers with regard to the sale of rice at exorbitant prices.
The government recently imposed a controlled price on imported rice but did not make changes to the price of local rice.
During a meeting held with President Maithripala Sirisena and rice producers, it was decided that two separate controlled prices would be imposed.
Accordingly, minister Bathiudeen noted that the controlled price on local rice will be decided on today.
