“New laws for action against corruption” – Prime Minister

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has announced the government will enact new laws to eliminate any and all obstacles that have prevented the countries Law enforcement bodies, from taking action against persons involved in fraud and corruption.

Premier Wickremesinghe noted that the Ministry of Justice has taken preliminary steps to establish a special high court to hear cases pertaining to large-scale financial crimes.

Accordingly the Prime Minister stressed that any cases that have been languishing in courts for extensive periods, will be expedited and verdicts will be pronounced within a six month-period.

Speaking during a rally in Homagama last evening, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said provisions will also be made in order for the Attorney General to direct overdue cases, directly before the High Court.

Accordingly the Prime Minister said the hearing of cases will be expedited and resolved within a reasonable time frame.
