Opposition Leader R. Sampanthan demands action against corruption

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Parliament convened this morning for a special session to debate the report by the Committee on Public Enterprise or COPE on the Central Bank bond issue.

Joining the debate Opposition Leader R Sampanthan highlighted that various government’s come into power on the back of addressing corruption when coming into power.

However the Opposition leader noted that the failure to address corruption and fraud could lead to the end of democracy in the island.

The Opposition Leader also questioned if legal action has been taken against any individual found guilty of corruption.

Meanwhile, the Opposition says the investigation and the future course of action over the COPE report on the Central Bank bond issue must be carried out under the leadership of the Speaker.
