Canada and British Envoys visit the North

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The High Commissioner of Canada in Sri Lanka David Mckinnon accompanied by the Political and Economic Counselor of the High Commission Jennifer Hart visited the Security Force Headquarters – Jaffna (SFHQ-J) recently. According the Army media, the High Commissioner had visited the SFHQ-J during a tour the Peninsula.

During the meeting with the Commander, Security Forces – Jaffna (SF-J), Major General, Darshana Hettiarachchi, a brief discussion was held where, general matters relating to the responsibilities and roles of the military in the post-conflict era era and efforts, being launched to improve notions of reconciliations and ethnic harmony with special focus on community-related projects were discussed. They also discussed the progress made in the release of private lands.

Meanwhile the Deputy High Commissioner of the British High Commission in Sri Lanka Tom Burn, visited the Oddusudan-based 64 Division Headquarters of the Security Force Headquarters – Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT), during a recent visit to the North.

During the meeting, the General Officer Commanding, 64 Division, Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera, gave the visiting British HC delegation a brief overview of the community welfare roles and tasks, being performed by the troops in the area.

They also discussed on continuing of development projects in the area and efforts, being made by the troops for enhancement of reconciliation and ethnic harmony.
